Let’s all congratulate Allison Chan on successfully making her high school tennis team! Her journey to this achievement is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and strategic skill development.
Last year, Allison participated in the team tryouts and performed exceptionally well in singles, but faced challenges in doubles. Unfortunately, the coach emphasized that the team was looking for strong doubles players rather than singles players at the time.
Following the tryouts, her father reached out to me to discuss the situation. I suggested a focused training plan to enhance her doubles skills, allowing her to secure a doubles position in the next year’s tryouts. Once on the team, she would still have the opportunity to transition back to singles if she preferred.
We started by refining her net volley technique, followed by improving mid-court control, and finally worked on strategic baseline play—teaching her how to set up successful net approaches instead of relying on a one-shot winner strategy.
Allison showed tremendous dedication, attending training every week unless she had a match. Beyond her own development, she took the initiative to lead the Tennis Spectrum program, where she regularly coached children with special needs. She even used this project to compete in the prestigious Diamond Challenge.
Working with Allison has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Over the past year, her doubles skills have improved significantly, and today, she has achieved her goal—securing a spot on the high school tennis team as a doubles player!
🎉 Congratulations, Allison! Your hard work and determination have paid off, and we look forward to seeing you excel on the court! 🎾👏
